Shimagnolo shifting, anothe mix and match story.

Veloce 9s shifters + jtek shiftmate + shimano 8s cassette = ideal balance between good shifting ergonomics and economical componentry.  But my freehub broke (that's another story) and I only had a campag 10s wheel handy.  Never mind.  Take the spacers from 8s shimano cassette, loose the biggest two campag sprokets (they share a single carrier) and mount spacer first then sprocket, spacer, sprocket etc.  Shifting is crisp as you like, even on the smallest sprocket which, of course, retains campag spacing.  The only downside is that, having jettisoned the two largest sprockets, the gear range is rather narrow.

In the past I have drilled out the pins holding the cassette together, this time I put it in a vice and hack sawed between a pair of sprockets, this was easier.  I had two old cassettes to hand, so sawing through one of the spacers didn't matter that much.

A bit of research shows  that I'd get an even better match with a Miche 9s campag cassette and shimano 8s spacers, that way I could keep the biggest sprocket as the Miche ones are all loose sprockets.
